James Davis James Davis

James Davis was born in Charleston, South Carolina in 1957. When he was 11 he moved to Atlanta, Ga. where he lived until he was 22 years old.

In Atlanta James attended DeVry Institute and received his degree in electronic technology.

With his degree he worked at the Allied Signal Corporation and Tracor Inc. as an engineering technician until September 11, 2001. After the terrorist attacks, James was laid off. Upon becoming unemployed, James moved to Washington where he became homeless for the first time in his life.

When did you become homeless and why do you think you became homeless?
I became homeless in December of 2003. I was trying to find a job not related to the government because I had lost my security clearance. I became legally separated from my wife and came to Washington from St. Mary’s County. Initially I stayed between my cousin’s house and the Central Union Mission.

You seem to have a great deal of experience with electronics and engineering. Do you plan to utilize these skills in the future?
I plan to keep on pursuing a job in that field, but in the commercial area of electronics. I have been working with temp agencies off and on just to freshen up the trade and stay current in the field. (If any of you readers out there know of any opportunities available, I’ll be glad to provide you with resumé).
