Volunteer
Street Sense is an organization which depends on the dedication and hard work of our volunteers. We are an organization which values the contributions of anyone who is willing to contribute their time, skills, knowledge or whatever they have available to help us achieve our goals.
“I can’t imagine how hard everyone at Street Sense works, but I really appreciate it. Street Sense is a win-win-win situation for everyone involved. Keep up the good work and please know that what you do does matter.” – Emily Tamlyn, Street Sense Reader

Street Sense Office Volunteer
Today, Street Sense has three employees, more than 100 active vendors, 100 committed volunteers and nearly 30,000 copies of Street Sense in circulation each month. It is our committed volunteer force which has enabled Street Sense to help hundreds of men and women struggling with homelessness to get back on their feet. Street Sense is looking for several dedicated volunteers to staff our office during the day. We offer a morning (9am-1pm) and an afternoon (1-5pm) shift, and we are looking for several volunteers to commit to one (or more) shifts per week. Office volunteers serve on the “front lines” of Street Sense, distributing papers to our vendors so they can sell the papers on the streets, earning an immediate income. Office volunteers also help with administrative tasks in the office, such as Internet research and data entry.
Street Sense Office Volunteers are expected to have the following skills:
Organization: Street Sense office volunteers manage the organization’s paper sales and therefore need to be organized and detail-oriented.
Patience: Our volunteers are interacting with the homeless population – some of whom are facing addiction, mental illness and other challenges.
Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously: In addition to managing paper sales, Street Sense volunteers answer phones, assist editorial staff, enter data and do miscellaneous tasks around the office and must be able to juggle the various responsibilities.
Volunteers need to arrive on time and follow the Street Sense office volunteer guidelines.
How to Apply:
Interested volunteers should contact Allen Hoorn at manager@streetsense.org
